Hon. Lance D. Hamner was elected Judge of Johnson Superior Court No. 3 (8th Judicial Circuit, Indiana) in 2008. Before being elected to the superior court, Judge Hamner served four and a half terms as Johnson County Prosecutor. He was also a Marion County deputy prosecutor and a litigation attorney at Barnes & Thornburg in Indianapolis.
Judge Hamner graduated from Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington, J.D., magna cum laude and Weber State University, B.S., summa cum laude. In law school Judge Hamner was selected to serve on the Board of Editors of the Indiana Law Journal and served on the editorial staff. He was also inducted into the Order of the Coif for “high attainments in the study of law.”
Judge Hamner was adjunct professor of law for 3 years at Indiana University School of law, Bloomington where he taught Trial Advocacy and has taught law at many colleges and continuing legal education seminars in Indiana and in other parts of the country. He is the author of Indiana Search & Seizure Courtroom Manual, Michie (2001, 2002, 2004) and Indiana Arrest, Search and Seizure Courtroom Manual, American Criminal Justice Institute, Tower Publishing (2009, 2014).
Judge Hamner is a member of the American Law Institute (ALI). He is listed in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in American Law.
Judge Hamner and his wife Karla were married in 1980. They have 5 children.
